Good news: Minnesota Vikings Sign Punter Seth Vernon…
We already know that the Minnesota Vikings will hold a kicking competition during the offseason and/or preseason after the 2024 NFL Draft, and it appears that they may also hold a competition for the punter position. Punter Seth Vernon, who was a member of the Atlanta Falcons’ training camp in 2022, has signed with the team, according to an announcement. In 2023, he was nowhere to be seen in the league. Vernon attended Portland State for his college career, where he averaged 44.6 yards per punt. He completed 27 punts within the 20-yard line and 29 punts that went over 50 yards. After that, he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Falcons, making only one appearance in the preseason while averaging 44.7 yards per punt across his three punts. At 6’3″ and 250 pounds, Vernon is almost the same size as Ryan Wright, the team’s punter right now. That may or may not indicate anything, and I’m not sure whether the Vikings have a “type” of punter right now, but I felt it was important to note. The team has not yet disclosed a matching roster change to go along with the Vernon deal, but I think they will eventually have to because they had a complete 90-man roster once their UDFA signings and draft picks were taken care of. We’ll update this site if and when they make an announcement about this shift.
