Twisted Result: Mariners’ Late Rally Crushes Twins in Minneapoli

Tuesday night in Minneapolis, the Seattle Mariners defeated the Minnesota Twins 10-6 thanks to a pinch-hit grand slam in the seventh inning and four runs in the ninth.

Seattle’s two runs scored by Mitch Haniger tied the four-game series at one victory apiece. The Mariners won for the third time in four games with RBIs from Dylan Moore, Josh Rojas, and Ty France.

Ryne Stanek (1-0) of the Mariners won the victory in relief.

Ryan Jeffers led the Twins at bat with a three-run home run. For Minnesota, Trevor Larnach, Kyle Farmer, and Austin Martin each contributed one RBI.

After giving up four runs in two frames, Jorge Alcala, a right-hander for the Twins (1-1), was given the loss.

In the second inning, Seattle scored two runs to start the scoring.

After trailing 0-2 in the count, Haniger launched a leadoff home run to left center field. Moore drove in Luis Urias with an RBI double with two outs.

The Twins led 4-2 after scoring four runs in the third inning.

Larnach hit a single to right field to score Jose Miranda with two outs and runners on first and second base. With runners on first and third, Jeffers launched his sixth home run, a three-run shot to left field.

The Mariners led 6-4 after Raleigh’s grand slam in the eighth inning. Mitch Garver, Urias, and Moore were also scored by his 445-foot shot to left field.

The Twins closed the gap to 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Farmer’s double to center scored Miranda, who had led off with a double of her own.

In the ninth, Minnesota scored one more run to tie the score at 6-6.

Martin went into first base headfirst after reaching on an infield single. Pitcher Taylor Saucedo of the Mariners hurt himself covering first base; Saucedo writhed in the dirt while Max Kepler ran home. The Mariners manager, Scott Servais, announced after the game that Saucedo would be out indefinitely due to a knee injury.

In the top of the ninth, Seattle scored four runs to break the tie.

It was 8-6 when Haniger added a sacrifice fly and Rojas got an RBI single. After a wild pitch allowed Rojas to score, Seattle led by three runs, then France closed the gap with an RBI single to left field.
