Shocking: When I was fourteen, I made a lot of sacrifices to get away from home.

At the Madrid Open, Jannik Sinner defeated fellow countryman Lorenzo Sonego, bringing their head-to-head record to 5-0. After the game, the world No. 2 said that his strong performance had no bearing on their friendship or their bond as Davis Cup colleagues.
As teammates on the Davis Cup squad that won the championship for Italy for the first time in 48 years just a few months ago, Sinner and Sonego had a close friendship. They partnered up in doubles matches, winning the series decisively against Serbia and the Netherlands. Sinner was the clear frontrunner the route to the title.
“The way you are as a human being is much more important than all the rest,” Jannik Sinner states.
The 2024 Australian Open champion said, “I haven’t changed because of the success,” in response to the question of whether he felt that his success had altered him in any way. I don’t believe in these kinds of things because I constantly strive to surround myself with wonderful people that inspire me and because I think that your humanity is far more valuable than anything else. That seems to be the most significant thing to me.”
“Then, of course, I have lofty goals; I want to take home as many titles as I can. I still remember the many sacrifices I made when I left home at the age of 14. The major goal is to improve as a player every day, so I’m working hard to do that every day.
This is crucial: working hard and waking up in the morning with the intention of improving. You must be intensely concentrated on the work during the hours that you put in. However, after finishing the work, you also need supportive individuals in your life. I believe you need to strike the correct balance, which is something I’m working toward.
Sinner added that he is still getting used to clay courts and expressed his desire to play at his best in the forthcoming French Open: “We arrived here very early, so we made every effort to get ready. On the other hand, I’m exerting a lot of physical effort in the gym.”
“I have to accept a few more things when I’m playing the match, but I’m thinking about it. I am aware of this. The main objective is to perform at the highest level at Roland Garros, isn’t that right? This is me trying to develop a good rhythm here.”

This, I believe, is what we’re all aiming toward. Thus, to sum up, I’m just glad to be here. I am even more excited because I was unable to play here the previous year. So let’s see how things work out this year.
