Sinner Forced to Withdraw from Madrid Open Quarterfinals Due to…

Madrid: First place Due to a hip issue, Jannik Sinner had to withdraw from the Madrid Open on Wednesday.

Sinner was slated to play Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals on Thursday after defeating Karen Khachanov in the fourth round on Tuesday.

 

“I’m very sorry to have to cancel my next match in Madrid,” the number two in the world posted on social media. This week, my hip has been troubling me and has been gradually becoming more uncomfortable. Following the physicians’ advice, we concluded that it would be best to stop playing and avoid making things worse.

It was anticipated that Sinner, 22, will play in Rome prior to the start of the French Open later this month.

This season, the Australian Open champion, who is 28-2, was making his third appearance in Madrid.

After Paris in 2022, Auger-Aliassime will compete in his first ATP 1000 semifinal. The Canadian will play against either Daniil Medvedev, ranked third, or Jiri Lehecka, ranked thirty.
