On Day 2 of the draft, the Eagles selected Jalyx Hunt with one of their final selections. While most fans aren’t familiar with Hunt, he is a well-liked player. On Saturday, Hunt talked with reporters about his eagerness to arrive in Philadelphia, his transfer from Cornell to Houston Christian and the subsequent change in position, and his celebration upon hearing from Howie Roseman.
“Dude, I’m so happy to be visiting the Eagles. I had the good fortune to receive an invitation for a 30-day visit. When I arrived, I had the opportunity to meet everyone, take in the entire facility, and get a sense of the atmosphere of the place where I will likely be working from now on.
It’s difficult to watch football without being aware of the Eagles. They have a long history of success and merely winning. Prominent athletes and Hall of Famer athletes have emerged.
Hunt continued by saying that the Eagles are a wonderful club and an all-around great franchise that consistently produces great players.
Regarding whether he views himself as a player who can contribute immediately or as a long-term, developing player, Hunt stated that he is ready and able to perform any duty that the team assigns him. Hunt said that Howie Roseman’s description of him as the “ultimate developmental player” was an enormous accolade for him.
They see a lot of potential, and I can’t wait to develop into it. I’m therefore undoubtedly patient enough to put in the effort and take the necessary steps to realize my potential. However, I would like to help out right away if that is possible. I wholeheartedly support it.
When asked why he made the switch from safety to edge rusher, Hunt said that he was a late bloomer and that his growth was the reason behind the decision. Hunt clarified that his transition to Houston Christian was a logical step after he went from being a wide receiver to a wide receiver in college and proceeded to grow into his frame.
He briefly discussed his time in college, which began at Cornell and continued at Houston Christian. Hunt acknowledged that he knew very little about the Ivy League, but after high school, he was recruited as a safety and thought it would be the best chance to play football at a high level and receive an elite education. He ultimately concluded that it wasn’t the appropriate circumstance for him and used the transfer portal to advance his football career.
Speaking about the pre-draft process, Hunt mentioned that scouts began visiting him during the previous season, but the reality of playing in the NFL didn’t sink in until he arrived at the Senior Bowl. Being drafted started to seem like a real ambition when he was able to meet with GMs and coaches.
The incoming rookie wanted to spend the weekend with his coaches, teammates, and most importantly, his family, so he leased an AirBnB in Houston. He said that receiving the call from Howie Roseman was bizarre; he had been texting all the men he knew who were getting drafted before him when he heard the phone ring and went inside to grab a sip of water. Hunt heard his name called and ultimately jumped into the pool while still wearing his suit.
