Eagles and Steelers Battles over a Rookie Following NFL Draft Weekend

The Philadelphia Eagles had a full three days during NFL draft weekend, taking nine players that they believe will have an influence on the team this season or in the future.

The Eagles were busy adding undrafted free agents to the 90-man roster and inviting players to rookie mini-camp, which starts next month once the draft is completed.

The other team in Keystone, the Pittsburgh Steelers, has expressed interest in one of the players the Eagles invited to rookie minicamp.

On Sunday, Justin Melo of The Draft Network revealed that cornerback Shon Stephens of Ferris State had accepted an invitation to the Eagles’ rookie minicamp. Melo does note, though, that Stephens has also accepted an invitation to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ rookie minicamp.

Eagles News: The Steelers and Philly are vying for a CB prospect.
Melo notes that Stephens might sign with the Eagles after their minicamp, which implies he won’t be able to attend Pittsburgh’s minicamp. The cousin of Steelers

linebacker Joey Porter is a former star player at Ferris State. Joey Porter Jr., Stephens’ cousin, is a Steelers player as well.

The 5-foot-8 cornerback was selected first-team All-GLIAC and the 2023 GLIAC Defensive Back of the Year after having an outstanding year at Ferris State. Stephens also took part in the College Gridiron Showcase and was chosen as a 2023 Division II All-American second team member.

Stephens recorded 25 total tackles, eight interceptions, four pass breakups, and 1.5 tackles for loss in his one and only season at Ferris State. The D2 star is an elite slot cornerback, given his size. Stephens is a skilled ball player who might be utilized as a kickoff returner on special teams.

Even though the Eagles have a glut of cornerbacks on their roster, Stephens could still be able to make it across the state if he performs well at rookie minicamp.
