Amari Cooper Could Make History This Season With The Browns

The Cleveland Browns were once considered one of the largest football powerhouses, which is absurd to consider, but a lot has changed since then.

Throughout the most of their existence, the Browns have had great difficulty, and poor quarterback play has been the main cause of those problems.

It goes without saying that if the quarterback isn’t performing at a high level, it will be difficult for the offence to get going, given that position’s importance in the game.

According to Brad Stainbrook, Amari Cooper is only 15 yards away from being the first wide receiver in franchise history to record back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, so his current status shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise.

This seems absurd, especially in light of how pass-happy modern offences are and how much the passing game is favoured by the new rules.

It’s also a testament to how little the Dallas Cowboys received for their gifted wide receiver, who is perhaps among the league’s top ten or five most underappreciated skill players.

The fact that Cooper has managed to pull it off despite some more poor QB play is what’s most impressive about this possible record.

He’s had quarterbacks such as Jacoby Brissett, P.J. Walker, Deshaun Watson, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and now Joe Flacco toss the ball to him. Maintaining that kind of output in the face of consistent quarterback play, or even just building a relationship with your signal-caller, says volumes about your skill at one of the most important positions in the game.
