On April 24, the Twins took on Garret Crochet once more. This time, they managed to score five runs in just 4.0 innings against him. It was not the same left-handed Crochet as the one that was released on Monday. Rather, he resembled the version that debuted in the season considerably more. Crochet’s first several starts against the potent Atlanta Braves included 7.0 IP, 1 ER, and 8 Ks.
The White Sox did withdraw Crochet early, in an odd move. He pitched five innings and struck out seven, which was a sight that the Twins batters were happy to see.
Early in the game, the White Sox offense also appeared significantly different. Chicago has been having trouble with fastballs, and they frequently took advantage of Joe Ryan’s fastball. An RBI double by Andrew Vaugn was made possible by a crisp single up the middle by Nicky Lopez. Vaughn would score on a double-play ball before the inning ended, giving the Sox an early 2-0 lead.
