Breaking News: Former Twin player Returns to Target Field, But Not in Purple and Gold

On Monday night, Jorge Polanco returned to Target Field, albeit donning a new jersey.

For the first time since the Twins traded him to the Seattle Mariners in late January, Polanco was back in Minneapolis to play his previous team. He greeted his old teammates and expressed his enthusiasm at being able to eat at Fogo de Chao once more. Prior to Monday night’s first-game of a four-game series between the Twins and Mariners, the Twins honored Polanco on the videoboard.

Says Adidas: “You’re Got This.”

It thrilled Polanco’s former Twins colleagues to see him again. Prior to his return to Target Field, Royce Lewis texted Polanco, telling reporters that he was the “best teammate ever.”

“It was a bummer for me personally (when Polanco was traded) just because of the person he is to me,” Lewis said. I obviously miss playing with him as well, but he was also a fantastic mentor, friend, and teammate. But I’m genuinely looking forward to him. I enjoy it because he’s in a fantastic situation, having fun, hitting home runs, and just being old Polo at third base.”

Reiterating the same opinion, Jose Miranda called Polanco “one of the best teammates I ever had.” Miranda claimed that Polanco helped him adjust to life as a rookie by offering guidance. Rocco Baldelli, the manager of the Twins, expressed nothing but praise for Polanco.

“Nothing but great memories, and he was a great player for us for a long, long time,” Baldelli said. “And he’s fantastic. Nothing gets better than that; he’s a wonderful man and he’s awesome in there. When you get to play, coach, and manage alongside guys like that, you feel fortunate.”
