Michigan Wolverines Lose Another Running Back To The Transfer Portal

The Michigan Wolverines are hard at work getting ready for their College Football Playoff encounter with Alabama. But they also have to deal with the transfer portal, just like any other college football team does at the moment. Another running back has registered on the site following the loss of CJ Stokes a few weeks prior. Leon Franklin, a walk-on running back, declared he was going to the transfer site.

Leon Franklin, a running back, leaves the Michigan Wolverines via the Transfer Portal.

Franklin has been a part of the programme since 2021, although his career statistics are not very impressive. Franklin had just 75 rushing yards in 29 games over the course of three years. Being behind Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards has everything to do with this, and it has nothing to do with Franklin’s play in particular. After learning that two well-known running backs will be joining in the 2024 class, Franklin made the decision to look for playing time elsewhere. For many walk-ons who are trying to make an impression with their little playing time, it is an unhappy reality.

Michigan Outlook for 2024

Anything beyond this season is very murky for the Wolverines. There are two big things that have to be figured out. The first is the NCAA investigation into the sign-stealing scandal. Depending on what the NCAA decides as punishment will vastly affect the 2024 season. The other is what will happen to Jim Harbaugh NFL teams are already calling to gauge a level of interest and if Harbaugh leaves, the program will also look very different. Michigan is hoping to avoid a huge punishment and keep Harbaugh so they can continue their streak of Big Ten titles.
