IN THE GAME AGAINST NEWPORT, WHO WAS MAN OF THE MATCH?

 

Manchester United’s 4-2 victory over Newport County at Rodney Parade moved them into the Emirates FA Cup fifth round.

Several Reds players played important roles in the win, especially Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes, whose early strikes put us ahead 2-0 in less than 15 minutes.

However, Newport scored goals right before halftime to tie the game at 2-2. Our ability to bounce back was crucial in the second half, as Antony and Rasmus Hojlund both scored to secure our place in the competition.

The returning Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, and Casemiro also grabbed attention as they began their individual comebacks from injury, adding to the impact made by the four scorers.

Fernandes was the Red Star player to receive the most praise from supporters who voted in our Man of the Match poll on ManUtd.com and the United App after scoring the game’s first goal.

After being a constant nuisance for Newport all afternoon, the Reds skipper, who showed his customary tenacity, drive, and flair in midfield and really everywhere on the field, garnered 33 percent of the vote.

Kobbie Mainoo, who was chosen as the player by 25% of fans who participated in our survey, came in second place.

In addition to maintaining his strong play in midfield and impressing when he teamed up with Casemiro for the first time in the engine room, Mainoo scored our second goal of the afternoon with a cool finish into the bottom-left corner, his first as a senior player for United.

Antony received well-earned recognition as well. After setting up Fernandes’ first goal with a masterful assist and scoring the crucial third goal in the second half to restore our lead, the Brazilian came in third place in the poll with 15% of the vote.

With seven and six percent, respectively, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund trailed closely behind them, but Fernandes was ultimately the fan favorite.
