A TOUGH ENOUGH FOR LEAGUE ONE, GORE
During his loan move to Port Vale, Dan Gore will hopefully make an impression, according to former Manchester United defender David May.
For the balance of the season, the League One team outbid the 19-year-old for his services and gave him the opportunity to play football with the first squad.
This will be another test for the gifted young player after two senior games for his boyhood club, against Aston Villa on Boxing Day in the Premier League and Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.
May, who witnessed the 1994 League Cup match at Vale Park, where Paul Scholes scored both goals in Alex Ferguson’s team’s 2-1 victory, has no qualms about Gore’s ability to bear the physical demands of playing third-tier football.
The two-time Premier League champion added, “He’s a tough kid,” on the most recent episode of The Debate.
“I believe it’s really important to get out there, but I’m confident he’ll be OK in that environment.
“You can play under-21 or under-23 teams, but the intensity of the matches isn’t the same when you’re up against people who are simply playing to pay their bills and advance in their careers.
“Yes, he’s taken a step back—well, a step sideways—for him,” May said. But he will also learn from the senior pros, who practice with them every day, about what it’s actually like to play down there.
It’s challenging, but because he’s a skilled player, he’ll benefit from it.
He will undoubtedly have moments during games when his status as a Manchester United player will work against him and make spectators want to kick him.
It’s all part of the experience, and he’ll be quite fine there.
“It is imperative that these boys go right away.
That is Manchester United’s future. Return to Old Trafford as better players as a result of having this information and comprehension of how the game is played.”
In Vale’s upcoming home game on Saturday afternoon, against table-topping Portsmouth, Gore might make his debut.
