Frank Lampard talks about his main worry when he found out Mason Mount was joining Manchester United.
Mason Mount’s high-profile move to Manchester United this season has caused Frank Lampard to voice his concerns.
Mount’s career was greatly advanced by Lampard’s when they were teammates at Derby County.
And since they were reunited at Chelsea, it’s clear that Lampard cares deeply about Mount’s success. When the former England international found out that Mount was joining Manchester United last summer, he did have some reservations.
In a recent interview, Lampard discussed his concerns about the trade with the podcast “Stick to Football.”
Lampard examined Erik ten Hag’s United midfield but was unsure of Mount’s place in it.
“A team that is struggling, a few injuries as well, and a lot of negativity in certain ways,” Lampard stated.
However, as far as I was concerned, he, Tomori, and Wilson changed everything for me when I took them to Derby.
But Mason in particular. He had a high degree of training. Brilliantly pressing. Off the ball great; he takes knowledge that is offered to him in that way.
“He’ll land and get back up. He’ll land and get back up. Fantastic boy. Excellent technical performance. He is a proper lad and quite good in those areas. He has a lot of drive.
“If you let go of him, he will want to show you, and it won’t be in a negative way. He is incredibly driven.
Not only is he my boy, and we have a relationship off the field, but I also believe he has talent and will succeed because of these factors.
“Once the team becomes more organized—I think it’s crucial to identify yourself as an aggressive eight or ten—my main concern about him when he joined Manchester United was where he would fit in with Bruno Fernandes.
“You have Casemiro, and I know you.” I’m aware that the concept is already beginning to take shape and veer away from that.
“You have to leave; this is the plan; that’s what I would like to hear, and this is not meant to belittle Mason or Manchester United.” I would like to know, “Where does he fit?”
While it is evident that injuries have impeded Mount’s development, Lampard also mentioned other factors.
It’s not the ideal time to bring in new players to Ten Hag because a lot of his guys are struggling to fit in.
