Would the Rams be wise to select this CB, whom PFF rates as the 19th best player available in the 2024 draft?
The 2019 NFL Draft has the Los Angeles Rams selected with the 19th overall pick.
Currently ranked as the 19th overall prospect by PFF is Alabama cornerback Ga’Quincy “Kool-Aid” McKinstry.
Should LA use their first-round selection to select this player? The Rams could trade away the choice, and McKinstry might go higher or lower on the board.
Several factors are at play, but would it make sense for the Rams to sign McKinstry if everything continues as it is and they remain at 19?
It is not a novel notion for LA to acquire this celebrity.
The idea of “Kool-Aid” joining LA has been discussed since a mock draft was created in December.
He is still being projected to the Rams in a few of the most current mock drafts.
Everything is conjecture. Les Snead may not even be aware of LA’s intended usage of the initial pick at this point.
Although signing a cornerback would satisfy a need for the Rams,.
On a one-year contract, Ahkello Witherspoon was perhaps the greatest player in LA’s secondary.
He’s also more of a number-two or number-three CB, though I think he would disagree.
It will be up to Snead and the company to decide whether to re-sign him and whether Witherspoon wishes to continue.
At cornerback, the Rams currently have Derion Kendrick and Cobie Durant.
Although they are more complementary pieces at the moment, both players have the potential to become more.
There’s not a bonified shutdown corner in LA.
Something Jalen Ramsey had with the team.
When LA traded Ramsey for the Jacksonville Jaguars, they did so at a premium.
The acquisition proved to be a wise one,, as LA went on to win the Super Bowl soon after.
However, our conversation may change if the Rams fail to secure a significant win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Is Snead, Sean McVay, or the defensive coordinator (Raheem Morris might still be the coordinator) willing to pay a premium for a cornerback who could be the team’s top player?
Is McKinstry deserving of the 19th choice overall? In contrast, “Kool-Aid” doesn’t even appear to be included in ESPN’s Mel Kiper’s list of his top 25 prospects.
The Rams have choices, but they’ll use their cornerbacks in some capacity, right? It would be worthwhile if LA could sign a defensive back of the caliber of McKinstry for one first-round selection (instead of the plethera they paid for Ramsey).
According to Wikipedia, McKinstry is 194 pounds, 6’1″ tall, and 21 years old.
Ramsey’s current measurements are 6’1″ and 208 pounds. Ramsey is 29 years of age.
Even without the ability to bulk up, “Kool-Aid” has the height to be a top cornerback.
Examples of talents would be honing your jump and using your body as leverage. One cannot be taught height.
It’s also important to emphasize the obvious. The moniker “Kool-Aid” fits him perfectly.
Kobie Turner, also known as “The Conductor” and “Kool-Aid,” might be able to join LA’s roster.

To be honest, I’m not sure if this is the best course of action for Los Angeles, but it sure looks like a move they could take.
As draft day approaches, we’ll see if any rumors concerning McKinstry and LA pick up steam.
Snead and McVay will definitely have a first-round pick this year.
They haven’t been able to say that for a long time.
