Scott was confirmed to have signed with Carolina, rejoining him with Ejiro Evero, the defensive coordinator for the Panthers.Evero, who was hired by Carolina this winter following a change in head coach, was the safety coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams in the past, who selected Scott in the 2019 draft. In the 2019 NFL Draft, Los Angeles chose Scott with the 243rd overall (Round 7) choice. As a rookie, Scott gained access to the active roster and went on to play in all 64 regular-season games until 2022. In a Rams uniform, he started 17 games during the regular season and added four more during the postseason following the 2021 season, playing a larger role as the team won Super Bowl LVI. After winning the championship, Scott played one more season for the Rams. When he became a free agent in March of last year, he signed a three-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals. This month, Cincinnati decided to release Scott, so the agreement didn’t last long. Last season, he played in all 17 games for the Bengals, starting ten of them and recording 56 tackles. As a part of Penn State’s 2019 draft class, Scott reunites with running back Miles Sanders upon entering Carolina. Other former Nittany Lions who have moved teams during NFL free agency are defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos (Carolina Panthers to San Francisco 49ers), tight end Mike Gesicki (New England Patriots to Cincinnati Bengals), and running back Saquon Barkley (New York Giants to Philadelphia Eagles). Scott has 214 combined tackles across five NFL seasons, including 27 starts, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles in 81 regular-season games. During the previous two years, all but one of those starts took place. Though Scott’s primary goal upon joining Penn State was to play running back, his influence was felt in other areas as well. In 2015, he was a red-shirt freshman who ran 30 times for 133 yards and one touchdown. Later, he led the defence and special teams as a team captain. Having spent the majority of his career as a special teams ace, Scott started at safety as a senior in 2018. He was a vital leader who recorded 65 tackles and three interceptions. In addition to participating in 52 Nittany Lions games, Scott earned a psychology degree. His excellent Penn State Pro Day performances included a 40-yard sprint time of 4.43 seconds and a vertical leap of 41 inches. Before making his Super Bowl debut a few years ago, Scott reflected on his experience with the Nittany Lions. He was in James Franklin’s initial class of PSU recruits (2014). “Having Coach Franklin as my coach was a blessing. He provided me with a chance,” Scott remarked. He has had a lot of success and brought a lot of talent to that programme. For him, playing was a blessing. He has an amazing family. He’s a really kind man. Thus, I wouldn’t swap that encounter for anything.”
