Bears coach Matt Eberflus appears composed and self-assured despite rumours of his dismissal.
With two resounding victories to end the season, Eberflus can assist his managers in publicly arguing the Bears’ case to keep him.
Just two months into his tenure as head coach of the Bears, Matt Eberflus was talking about their major rebuild as if he would be in the position for ten years. At his first NFL annual meeting, he sat at a round table in a courtyard at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida, and appeared to be more than okay with having a pared-down squad in his first season.
After two seasons and 23 losses in 32 games, he has seemed no less at ease lately as speculation swirls about the Bears firing him. Maybe he knows something everyone else doesn’t; maybe it’s simply his steady personality.
When asked after the Cardinals game how important these late-season victories could be for keeping his job, he remained silent, responding only that “that’s all you can do in this business” and that he was focused on each game. He has also mentioned the end-of-season meetings to evaluate quarterback Justin Fields and offensive coordinator Luke Getsy as though he will be present.
