After learning of the untimely death of his 15-month-old son Kobe on Monday, Anthony Joshua sent his sympathies to Francis Ngannou, a former opponent.Following Francis Ngannou’s announcement of the death of his 15-month-old son Kobe, Anthony Joshua sent a touching letter to the former UFC fighter. Ngannou revealed the news of his son’s passing on social media on Monday in a heartfelt statement.
Too soon to go, but he’s already disappeared. He stated, “My partner Kobe, my mate, and my little boy were full of life and joy.” He’s dead now, lying on his back. I kept calling out his name, but he didn’t answer.
“Beside him, I was the finest version of myself, and now I don’t know who I am. We are struck where it hurts the most by the unfairness of life. How would you handle something like that? What kind of lifestyle is that? If you have any suggestions, kindly share them with me as I truly don’t know how to handle this.”
In his home Cameroon, Ngannou’s terrible passing was initially announced on Sunday. The fighter conveyed his immense sorrow and anguish several hours before formally announcing his son’s death.
“What’s the purpose of life if what we’re fighting tooth and nail to get away from is what finally hits us the hardest!?” he wrote on Twitter. “Why is life so cruel and unfair? Why does life always seem to take away what we lack? I’m so exhausted.”
Soon after, there was a show of support, with many well-known figures in the combat sports industry expressing their sympathies. Conor McGregor, the former UFC champion, posted on X, saying, “Absolutely gutted reading this, Francis! I can only fathom how painful this moment is for you. I’m quite sad to hear this information. Until we cross paths again, I pray that God has the best and safest place in heaven for him.
Turki Alalshikh, the head of Saudi royal boxing, offered his own words of encouragement, writing: “My condolences for Francis Ngannou’s loss. May the soul of his son rest in peace.
In his brief remembrance, Joshua—who defeated Ngannou in a heavyweight boxing contest last month—wrote, “May the memories you shared bring you comfort.”
Following an amazing boxing debut against Tyson Fury in October of last year, Ngannou squared off against Joshua in Saudi Arabia. The 37-year-old was into difficulty early on, being knocked down many times in the opening two rounds until the two-time heavyweight champion quickly put an end to him.
After their eagerly awaited fight, the two boxers had nothing but respect for one another. Joshua gave Ngannou a hug in the middle of the ring as he stood up from the canvas, saying, “You’re an inspiration.” Many people will be defeated by you. Keep boxing going. Remain in boxing.
“If you need anything, let me know, but we’ll talk another time,” he subsequently said.
