After regaining his chance to compete for the world title, Anthony Joshua has hinted at his upcoming bout, which might have a significant impact on the boxing community.
In 2021 and 2022, Joshua was badly defeated twice in a row by the formidable and current heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk.
But since then, he has recovered, winning four fights in just over a year. To return to his explosive best, he first defeated Jermaine Franklin on points before stopping Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin, and Francis Ngannou three times via knockout.
It is now anticipated that he will either fight for the IBF title, which is anticipated to become vacant immediately following the fight between Usyk and Tyson Fury, or take on the latter after their initial match for the undisputed titles on May 18—a bout that many are forecasting but in which both men are receiving equal support.
Turki Alalshikh, the Saudi Arabian Minister of Entertainment and the man responsible for arranging all of these major fights, recently shared a photo of himself and Anthony Joshua on Instagram along with some insightful remarks, implying that Joshua might not have to wait for Fury and Usyk’s rematch.
“We’re waiting on Usyk vs. Fury’s outcome.”
While many would prefer to see Joshua fight fellow Brit Fury for the first time, Joshua would welcome a third chance at Usyk as he plans revenge and a path to become the only other three-time world heavyweight champion alongside Muhammad Ali.
While Joshua waits for the belts, Deontay Wilder might be a fantastic alternative for a major fight as he returns to action on June 1 against Zhilei Zhang.
