FC Barcelona determined that making a change was the best course of action for moving forward. Barça quickly severed company with Xavi Hernandez when it was determined he was no longer the best candidate for the position. Barcelona has ultimately chosen to back Hansi Flick to take his place directly. Flick, a former coach of Bayern Munich and the German national team, will bring fresh perspectives and components to Barcelona, which he hopes to incorporate into the Barça framework. Although landing Flick appears to have been a fairly simple process, the route there was far more difficult than it first appeared. A recent report from SPORT claims that Flick’s interest was mainly piqued by FC Barcelona over Bayern Munich. According to reports, the Bavarian team desired Flick’s signature and had anticipated his return to Bayern for a possible two-year stay. After a few arguments, he ultimately decided to head in the direction of Spain. According to reports, Flick and Bayern did not agree since the Bundesliga team did not give them enough trust when it came to selecting their previous coach. They only meant to make a season-long contract offer to Hansi Flick until 2025, at which point they planned to pursue other top players like Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, or Xabi Alonso. On the other side, FC Barcelona ultimately offered him a contract that included two years of assured continuity. With a contract that would last until 2026, Flick would have more opportunity to instill his artistic principles within the team and would also receive a vote of confidence from the Barcelona board. Furthermore, there was internal conflict within Bayern Munich’s hierarchy regarding Flick’s potential hiring. While some club executives were keen to welcome the sextuple-winning coach back, others were a little more cautious, feeling that Bayern needed a new face following their whole mess with Thomas Tuchel. It appears that Bayern have finally decided to hire Vincent Kompany, the former coach of Burnley. Barcelona, however, will be hoping to build on something with Flick, a coach who appears to have already done his homework on the Catalan team and is eager to get going at his new location.
