Furthermore, after supporting the team through the first half, the pitching staff has appeared far more vulnerable in recent weeks. Robert Dugger’s MLB.com biography page states that the Athletics have signed him to a minor league contract. Dugger is a right-hander. Due to his assignment to the team’s Arizona Complex League affiliate, Dugger may be receiving a mechanical makeover or just a spring training-style ramp-up before his next assignment, which will likely take him further up the minor league ladder. Following a brief and fruitless stay with the Korea Baseball Organization, Dugger is back playing baseball in North America. Dugger was released at the end of April despite posting a 12.71 ERA over six starts and 22 2/3 innings after agreeing to a one-year, $750K agreement with the SSG Landers over the offseason. Despite those unimpressive results, Dugger, 28, has more recent experience in the Pacific Coast League, so he might now give the A’s some depth in the rotation. Over 146 1/3 Triple-A innings with the Rangers’ highest club in 2023, the righty’s 4.31 ERA stood out as an especially good figure in a league that is very hitter-friendly. Although Dugger’s strikeout and walk rates of 22.6% and 9.5%, respectively, weren’t particularly noteworthy, producing quality innings in the PCL is no small accomplishment, and the Athletics will undoubtedly be curious to see what Dugger can do with their own PCL team at Triple-A Las Vegas.During his four Major League seasons, Dugger pitched for the Marlins, Mariners, Rays, and Reds from 2019 to 22. He finished with a 7.17 ERA. Although Dugger has never been a very strong thrower or strikeout pitcher, he has depended on control to get solid results, even if, over his last three minor league seasons, his walk rates have been relatively low.

The Mariners returned home following a frustrating road trip in which they finished 3–4. They fell out of the lead in the AL West after losing to the Twins in a four-game series following an incredible series victory. They were going to have to concentrate against a team that was struggling to get to 500 and had been playing some excellent ball lately since they had a series against Oakland scheduled for this coming weekend. Even if Oakland’s pitching is far superior to that of 2023, it still has flaws, and the Mariners took advantage of those in game one, although it took a few innings.In the first game, the Mariners’ ultra-utility guy Dylan Moore took the lead. Going 3-4 with a home run, he recorded a career-high five RBI in the game as the Mariners won 8-1 to start the series. When it mattered most, the Mariners offense performed well against the Athletics. Although it was unfortunate to see Bryan Woo leave the game early, it sounds like a precautionary measure, and Servais anticipates that Woo will start his next game. Given how Emerson Hancock has been playing this season, the Mariners were relieved to see that he looked terrific. Woo pitched 4.1 innings and gave up just one hit and one walk. The Mariners would lose game two by the same score that they won game one, an 8-1 total, in one of those strange baseball occurrences.
