When the Falcons selected Michael Penix with their first pick in the NFL Draft, they surprised their fan base, Kirk Cousins, and pretty much everyone else watching the draft. Six weeks ago, Kirk Cousins inked a $180 million free agent contract with the Falcons. They also selected his replacement last Thursday, selecting Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth overall pick. It was an odd choice, and quite simply, a first. The Falcons might have reliable quarterback play for the next fifteen years if Atlanta can successfully negotiate the tricky dynamic in the upcoming years. Every NFL team aspires to achieve it. There are, nevertheless, additional situations in which it fails. That does not imply that Penix or the Cousins are in a horrible situation. With Cousins in the centre, I could even contend that no prospect could have immediately elevated the squad to the top.
