Six weeks ago, Kirk Cousins inked a $180 million free agent contract with the Falcons. They also selected his replacement last Thursday, selecting Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth overall pick. It was an odd choice, and quite simply, a first. The Falcons might have reliable quarterback play for the next fifteen years if Atlanta can successfully negotiate the tricky dynamic in the upcoming years. Every NFL team aspires to achieve it. There are, nevertheless, additional situations in which it fails. That does not imply that Penix or the Cousins are in a horrible situation. With Cousins in the centre, I could even contend that no prospect could have immediately elevated the squad to the top. Penix has the opportunity to see and learn from one of the league’s top quarterbacks in that same breath.Although I wrote a column suggesting the Falcons are among the greatest places for a rookie quarterback to land, ESPN’s Jordan Reid disagrees. Where is the most dubious quarterback landing spot? Reid: No. 8 to the Falcons, Michael Penix Jr. Drafting a quarterback at number eight overall was the first major surprise of the draft, as Matt mentioned previously. Even with a $100 million guarantee for Cousins, the Falcons made this very strange choice. It creates a captivating dynamic. With no true offensive supporting cast, an inexperienced coordinator, and a defensive background, Jerod Mayo is Drake Maye’s first-year head coach. Bo Nix also lacks powerful weapons, so he will need to demonstrate his superiority right away. Thankfully, Sean Payton is on his side. That’s encouraging for the stuff from Auburn and Oregon. In Washington, Jayden Daniels’ circumstances are also not ideal. There are valid inquiries regarding Kliff Kingsbury and the Commanders’ offensive line that require attention. The Bears really held the 9th overall pick, thus Caleb Williams is not landing in a circumstance where a first overall pick would normally occur. They weren’t the league’s bottom squad. Williams has an abundance of weapons, but Shane Waldron and the offensive line worry me. J.J. McCarthy found himself in an ideal circumstance. With Kevin O’Connell leading the offensive line and a talented collection of wide receivers led by the best in the league, the Vikings boast a formidable offensive line. Penix, however, will have the opportunity to study behind Cousins. In addition to a strong offensive line and three top-10 picks, he has a highly regarded coach in Zac Robinson working for him. The Falcons are undoubtedly closer to the best than the worst, even though they might not be the ideal landing point.
