Good news: The Lions sign two promising players after the auditions…

Rookie minicamp offers certain other players the chance to try out in addition to giving incoming rookies the chance to participate in their first NFL sessions. Two players who were tryouts at rookie minicamp were formally signed by the Detroit Lions on Monday.According to earlier rumors, tight end Parker Hesse and wide receiver Kaden Davis have both signed to the 90-man roster. In 2022, Davis did not receive a draft selection from Division II Northwest Missouri State. He played both on and off the practice squad for the Denver Broncos during his first campaign. With eight receptions and a touchdown in the preseason, he played for the Arizona Cardinals the previous season. For one regular-season game, he was added to the Cardinals’ active roster (although he did not play). In the interim, Davis participated in the 2023 USFL season with the Michigan Panthers. With 311 kickoff return yards in five games, he was the main return man for the Panthers. With more returns possible thanks to the NFL’s new kickoff regulation, the Lions might see his potential there. Following rookie minicamp tryouts, the Lions added two players. Hesse has played in 28 games over the course of the last three seasons for the Atlanta Falcons, hauling in 14 career receptions for 132 yards. In 2022, he participated in all 17 games (seven starts) with the Falcons and caught a touchdown pass in a preseason game against the Lions. Hesse spent his first two seasons with the Tennessee Titans after being selected as an undrafted free agent in 2019. Hesse is an Iowa native. Not exactly an “Iowa tight end,” though, as the Titans moved him to the offensive side of the ball after he played linebacker in college instead of defensive line. He might be a defensive lineman with some two-way utility ability.Although Hesse looks to fit in best as a fullback, the Lions do have some doubts about their tight end depth chart, especially behind Brock Wright and Sam LaPorta. Like Davis, he’s intriguing enough, if nothing else, to merit more investigation following rookie minicamp.
