Many free agents wait to sign with teams until after the NFL Draft each offseason in order to ensure that a rookie won’t be taken away from their role. With Kirk Cousins and Michael Penix for the Falcons, that may not always be the case since, barring injuries, there is never a situation in which the rookie outperforms the veteran in training camp. But according to ESPN’s Bill Barnwell, it doesn’t make Cousins any less of a loser in the 2024 NFL Draft. Losers: QB, Falcons, Kirk Cousins You can’t really say that this surprises you. I don’t need to explain again how shocking it was for Cousins to learn that the Falcons selected Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth overall pick. It is said that the new quarterback for Atlanta was unaware that Penix was a candidate for the Falcons until the decision was made. Since Penix did not visit Atlanta before to the draft, the organisation did not even actively seek him. One of the most amazing top-10 selections in recent memory, in my opinion. I’ve had a variety of emotions throughout this whole story. First of all, most people thought that it was a surprise. Confusion and dissatisfaction with the organisation resulted from it. By now, I’ve changed my mind about Michael Penix as a prospect and become enraged with those who keep pulling the Kirk Cousins card. Is there potential for the Falcons to add something that might be useful in 2024? Indeed. Is Kirk Cousins justified in feeling irritated with the company? Indeed, without a doubt. Does that imply that the Falcons must now attend to him on a daily basis? Absolutely not. Rather of siding with Cousins, the team acted in the Atlanta Falcons’ best interests. I can respect their conviction enough to carry out their process, even if I disagree with it. It’s a little deceptive to label Cousins as a “loser” after the NFL Draft because, as long as he plays to the calibre he established in Minnesota, he won’t be losing his position. The Falcons can only hope for an injury to replace Cousins.
