Braves fall to bitter division rival with their previous first-round pick
Even for a team like the Atlanta Braves, when everything seems to go their way most of the time, baseball can be a cruel game occasionally.
Given how little room there is for error in terms of achieving major league success, this is especially true with regard to prospects.
One bad injury or poor adjustment can sometimes be the difference between a player who never makes it out of the minor leagues and one who is a regular in the major leagues.
In one such instance, Kolby Allard’s circumstances in Atlanta never completely worked out.
Allard was regarded as a gift when the Braves selected him in the first round of the 2015 draft; prior to suffering a back ailment during his draft year, he was projected to be selected in the top five.
After this, Allard would dominate the minor leagues until making his big league debut in 2018.
But after that, things started to become worse.
Allard advanced swiftly through the minor league ranks, but he was never able to match his high school speed.
As a result, the Braves traded him to the Rangers in exchange for Chris Martin after he had a poor professional debut.
The Braves re-acquired Allard before the 2023 season, after he struggled for a few years in Texas.
However, he only made four appearances before a shoulder nerve ailment ended his season early.
Allard was let go by the Braves and was not tendered at the end of the season.
Regretfully, he signed a one-year contract with the Phillies, which is likely the worst conceivable team.
Kolby Allard and the Phillies agreed to a one-year contract.
When a former player contracts with a division rival, it’s never good news, and it’s even worse when that competitor is a competitive squad.
Allard’s track record and propensity of ailments make his upside questionable right now.
But he will still be able to give the Phillies, one of Atlanta’s major challengers in the National League next season, some insightful knowledge about the Braves.
Nevertheless, let’s hope Kolby performs well.
His teammates have always seemed to adore him since he is a truly nice guy.
It’s obvious that his two stints with the Braves did not end well, despite the fact that he did not put in a lot of effort.
Baseball is an unfair game, where good players consistently have difficulties.
If he could eventually find success in Philadelphia, that would be amazing, though certainly not at the expense of the Braves.
