Done Deal: Lions Signs Contract With Greatest…

Terrell Williams will be hired by the Detroit Lions as DL coach and run game coordinator.

It has been reported by The Athletic’s Dianna Russini that Terrell Williams, a coach, is joining the Detroit Lions staff to serve as the team’s defensive line coach and coordinator of runs.

Three years later, Williams entered the coaching field after spending the whole 1995 season as an East Carolina defensive tackle.

Before joining the Raiders in 2012, he upgraded schools multiple times during his college coaching career.

He was going from Youngstown State (MVC) to Akron (MAC), Purdue (Big Ten), and Texas A&M (SEC).

When Williams joined the Miami Dolphins as their defensive line coach in 2015, he met Dan Campbell, the current coach of the Lions, who was the Dolphins’ interim coach at the time.

The Tennessee Titans, where Williams was first employed as their defensive line coach,.

later added associate head coach to his role, would be his next stop.

Williams has a lengthy resume of elite athletes that he developed, including multiple Pro Bowl players.

Ryan Kerrigan, Cliff Avril, Kawaan Short, and Anthony Spencer were all developed by him at Purdue.

Von Miller studied at Texas A&M under his guidance.

Williams was a mentor to Cameron Wake throughout his career.

Under Williams’ tutelage, Jeffrey Simmons and Jurrell Casey both thrived in Tennessee.

Williams’ defensive line helped the Titans have the NFL’s best run defense in 2022, which is undoubtedly the reason he was named run game coordinator.

Although the Lions allowed the second-fewest running yards in 2023, Williams’ defensive line guided the Titans to that success.

It’s important to note that the Lions now employ John Scott Jr. as a defensive line coach

But as of right now, there has been no indication that his position has changed.

Although Russini reports Williams will have the same title as Scott, the Lions may just be rearranging the staff’s responsibilities, something they do every summer.
