After losing by one point to the Detroit Lions in the Wild Card round this past weekend, the Los Angeles Rams’ 2023 season has come to a close. It was an unexpected year for a club that didn’t have high hopes going into the offseason.
The Rams must now make the crucial choice of how to strengthen a squad that shocked the NFL community.
Although head coach Sean McVay said that he won’t make any staffing changes for 2024 until a coach quits for another position, personnel adjustments will undoubtedly occur later this offseason.
According to McVay, “any changes will only be for better opportunities,” as reported by Andrew Siciliano of NFL Network. “The same group will return.”
With a club that should have most, if not all, of its best players back for the next season, this is crucial for consistency.
On the defensive end, Aaron Donald, Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua, and Kyren Williams are all still under contract.
Raheem Morris, the defensive coordinator, is one coach who may quit.
Morris is apparently being considered for the head coaching post by five teams: the Atlanta Falcons, Los Angeles Chargers, Washington Commanders, Carolina Panthers, and Seattle Seahawks.
Morris has also served as interim head coach for the Falcons for part of the 2020 season after serving as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009 to 2011.
Morris would have to continue to strengthen the young Rams defense, which was strong against the run but lacking in other areas, if he decided to remain in Los Angeles.
