After Xavi was fired by Barcelona, Manchester United apparently seemed like a possible suitor for him, but their approach was met with little success. As per the Spanish publication Diario AS, the legendary Catalan player has explicitly said that he wishes to take a break and postpone his career in management for the time being. In all fairness, the Barcelona board did not play around with Xavi. He made the announcement back in January that, following three years with his previous team, he would be leaving his position in the dugout at the conclusion of the 2023–2024 season. He reversed course in April and announced that he would be the La Liga powerhouses’ coach for the foreseeable future. Positive talks with club president Joan Laporta, according to Xavi, provided him with the confidence he needed to keep the Blaugrana in the lead. Xavi committed his future to Camp Nou and then left, looking flushed. That was prior to Barcelona finishing the season without a trophy, behind Real Madrid by ten points in the league standings, and losing to them in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. Laporta subsequently made his own 180-degree reversal by firing Xavi on May 24. Hurt. His replacement, Hansi Flick, a former coach of Bayern Munich and the German national side, has been signed; Erik ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford is still up in the air.
