When the Minnesota Twins play the first game of a four-game set in Minneapolis on Monday night against the Seattle Mariners, they will attempt to win after falling short for the first time in two weeks.
The Twins’ 12-game winning run came to an end on Sunday when they lost 9-2 at home to the Boston Red Sox. The team’s longest winning run since 1991—when Minnesota won 15 games in a row—was ended with the loss.
Even though Sunday’s game did not go as planned, Twins shortstop Carlos Correa stated that he and his teammates are still feeling optimistic going into their series against Seattle.
Regarding the winning run, Correa remarked, “It was special.” “It gives us a great deal of assurance going forward. This season is going to be quite long. We were aware that it wouldn’t last indefinitely.
Seattle, meanwhile, hopes to build on a strong weekend series against Houston, winning two of the three games played away from home. The Mariners defeated the Astros 5-4 on Sunday, with Cal Raleigh hitting a tiebreaking single home run in the top of the ninth inning.
The Mariners won their sixth straight series because to Raleigh’s explosion.

Throughout his career, Castillo has faced the Twins five times (all starts). In those games, he is 1-1 with a 5.63 ERA; however, in two starts against Minnesota in 2023, he recorded a 3.46 ERA.
Simeon Woods Richardson (1-0, 2.45), a right-hander, will be the Twins’ counterpuncher. Woods Richardson is trying to recover from a mixed performance in his most recent start against the Chicago White Sox, where he gave up two runs (one earned) on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. The decision was made without his input.
In his short career, 23-year-old Woods Richardson has never faced the Mariners.
As the Twins focused on the Mariners, manager Rocco Baldelli expressed his pride in his club. Prior to winning 12 of its next 13, Minnesota dropped 13 of its first 20 games.
“The way we’ve come back from the start, which wasn’t a great start, the way we came back from that shows character,” Baldelli stated. “That’s something you’re really looking for in your group.”
The Twins and Mariners are playing their opening series of the season. Last season, the teams squared off seven times, with Seattle winning the series 4-3 despite being only outscored 40-38 in those contests.
Minnesota’s home record this season is 8-7. Seattle has a similar 8–7 record when playing away.
