Vergil Ortiz Jr. Secures Tim Tszyu Showdown in August After Quick Victory Over Thomas Dulorme

At the Save Mart Arena in Fresno, California, on Saturday night, Vergil Ortiz Jr., a 23-year-old junior middleweight contender, wanted to put in some rounds, but instead he only got 159 seconds of work as he folded Thomas Dulorme, a 26-7-1 (17) fighter, in two with a body blow.

After being out of commission for about a year and a half due to illness and injuries, the 26-year-old Texan has now boxed fewer than two rounds.

The heavy-handed technician will now go on to the most difficult bout in his career when he fights on August 3 at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California, against former WBO 154-pound champion Tim Tszyu 24-1 (17).

Ortiz remarked, “He was coming with everything.” “I can just feel when to land a shot like that; there’s no explanation for it. Because of the sound he made and the way he landed, I knew it was over.

“A lot has changed since we got into a fight almost seven years ago. That was a long time ago. To share the ring with him is an honor. It seems to me that everything is in its proper place.

“Tim Tszyu, I know you’re watching this fight. Know that I’m prepared! All I want to do is battle the best. They put me against opponents, and I take care of them; I’m not sure why.

In a video chat with Sean Zittel’s YouTube channel, Ortiz cautioned his followers against getting too enthused over his most recent defeat.

“I recently noticed it. I merely took it that he had left the window open for a little too long. That is all there is to it. Nothing unique about it existed. It wasn’t thrown hard by me. It was just right there, according to Ortiz.

“I won my last battle with a bang. I figured I would take my time in this conflict.

“I won’t throw my punches with all of my might and see what sticks. The task was completed by one of the punches that landed clean.

The bout with Tszyu was declared early on in the previous week. Last month, the 29-year-old Australian was defeated 21-1-1 (13) by Sebastian Fundora, a late substitute, via a split decision to forfeit the world title.

Late in the second round, the six-foot-six Californian southpaw accidentally elbowed Tszyu, causing a terrible gash on his scalp. The champion had to fight through a mask of blood for the remainder of the fight, and the challenger eventually prevailed with scores of 115-113, 116-112, and 112-116. With the victory, Fundora also took home the vacant WBC strap.

Ortiz claims to be aware of Tszyu’s contributions and to be prepared for a shootout.

Ortiz declared, “I already know how the fight is going to go down.” The Third World War will occur, but it will be tactical in nature. We don’t just send every soldier into battle and leave them there.

In order to devise a strategy for defeating Tszyu, Ortiz said he still needed to complete his homework.

He remarked, “It’s a very tough fight.” That makes those combatants incredibly unpredictable. We’ll examine him to determine what needs to be done and what needs improvement.
