Just Now: Pewter Report Offers Extensive Analysis and Insights on Buccaneers’ Selections in 2024 NFL Draft

Throughout the first two days of the 2024 NFL Draft, Pewter Report has covered every angle, including the Bucs, with our live draft program, hosted by Celsius. Rounds four through seven of the third day of the draft will take place on Saturday.

Being able to watch every Bucs pick live provides the advantage of allowing Pewter Report to provide our instant analysis and response, allowing us to make an informed decision on which pick to accept or reject. We proceeded in this manner on both the first and second days, with the Bucs having three selections in round two (57) and round three (89 and 92).

Chris Barmore, second-round pick of the Bucs

Barmore’s choice seemed like a welcome consolation since the Dallas Cowboys had just selected edge rusher Marshawn Kneeland with the same pick. If Kneeland had been on the board, it would have been intriguing to see what Tampa Bay would have done. Nevertheless, Barmore finishes the job while in the backfield and possesses excellent edge rusher metrics. Although he still has room to grow, his quick wit and aggressive nature should make him a strong candidate for a starting position on the edge.

Scott Reynolds and Josh Queipo of Pewter Report had the following opinions about it:

The Bucs can have a field day in their secondary at safety, making this my best selection choice thus far after two days. Smith is physical and athletic, has a high football IQ, excellent football instincts, and excellent coverage while taking the ball away. He can play in the nickel and is a fantastic match for the Bucs.

This gives Todd Bowles the chance to set up several formations that feature Smith, Jordan Whitehead, and Antoine Winfield Jr. all playing simultaneously and to their advantages. The Bucs have added Smith to the roster, which will aid their All-Pro safety, Winfield, who is their greatest defensive player.

When we first learned that Smith was traveling to Tampa Bay, this is how we felt.

Jalen McMillan is selected by Tampa Bay with the 92nd overall pick.

Washington receiver Jalen McMillan was the first skill position player the Bucs selected in the 2024 NFL Draft. This also maintains the flow of Washington players to Tampa, as former Huskies Vita Vea, Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, Greg Gaines, and Cade Otton are also Bucs players. All of these players—including McMillan—have been selected by Tampa Bay in the draft, with the exception of Gaines.

McMillan, who generally lines up as a wide receiver in the slot, is the kind of player who can break up plays. At Washington, where Rome Odunze and Ja’Lynne Polk were the best players, McMillan had to learn how to maximize his repetitions despite playing with a lot of skill.

He will be playing behind Chris Godwin and Mike Evans in this situation. McMillan gives the Bucs a ton of speed. Godwin was supposed to shift inside more, but McMillan can fill that job and is rarely lining up outside at receiver, so it also raises questions about what they’ll do with him. Liam Coen, the offensive coordinator, undoubtedly has a strategy in mind.

The third day of the NFL Draft begins on Saturday, so the Bucs are not finished yet.
