Three weeks after being put into a coma following a knockout loss, heavyweight boxer Ardi Ndembo passed away.
When they battled in the Florida Team Combat League, Ndembo, 27, was knocked out brutally by Nestor Santana, leaving him unconscious for a few minutes. He was put in an induced coma at a nearby hospital after being swiftly moved there.
However, Ndembo passed suddenly three weeks after the fight. “We at Viva Promotions mourn the loss of Ardi Ndembo, a talented Congolese boxer who tragically passed away after a knockout in a Team Combat League match on April 5,” the promotion said in a statement.
“Until his tragic passing, he stayed in an artificially induced coma. “RIP, Ardi Ndembo.”
On social media, there have also been countless tributes. One admirer wrote: “May he rest in peace. In Miami, Ardi Ndembo departed from this life. His family has our deepest sympathies.” A second person remarked, “RIP Ardi Ndembo, my condolences to his family and friends.”
“I was saddened to learn that Ardi Ndembo had died as a result of wounds from his most recent fight. A third said, “RIP, Warrior. Another said, “My condolences to Ardi Ndembo’s family and friends. He is a young man.” As a gladiator, he was.”
Since then, a fundraising has been established for the family of Ndembo, and it has raised almost $11,000 (£8,700). The fundraiser goes on to say, “To help the Ndembo children, Team Combat League will match all third-party donations up to a maximum of $25,000.
“27-year-old father of two Ardi Ndembo is originally from Brazzaville, Congo. Please take a moment to offer the Ndembo children your financial assistance, prayers, and strength during this difficult time. We respectfully beg that everyone honor the family’s request for privacy at this time. I appreciate your thoughtfulness.
