6-2, 6-1, Alcaraz defeated Alexander Shevchenko, ranked 59th in the world, to win his 11th straight match in the Madrid Masters.
Due to an “injured pronator teres” in his right arm, Alcaraz withdrew from the Monte Carlo Masters and the Barcelona Open. This is the Spaniard’s first tournament since the Miami Open last month.
In his opening encounter, the two-time defending Madrid Open winner also discussed how he modified his style of play: “I think it worked pretty well today because I just practiced slices, volleys, and backhands last month.”
