Shocking: Jim Ross, an AEW announcer, reveals the relationship with Cody Rhodes of the WWE

The WWE Universe will continue to celebrate Cody Rhodes’s fitting conclusion to his career and his victory over the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40, if you’re starting to grow weary of it. The AEW commentator Jim Ross is among Rhodes’ many generations-long wrestling links. When co-host Conrad Thompson asked Ross about his thoughts on Rhodes’ biggest accomplishment on the most recent episode of “Grilling JR,” “Good Ol’ JR” responded candidly, recalling how the two first got together when Dusty, Rhodes’ father, would occasionally accompany him to wrestling matches across multiple promotions.

“I adore that child,” Ross declared openly. “Oh my goodness, he would constantly come with Dusty to TV shows and similar events as long as Mama Rhodes would let him. Adorable child; I adore him. He fought extremely hard to get to the point [on WrestleMania 40 Night Two] in order to have the bout, and he has a heart of gold.”

Naturally, after AEW was founded, Rhodes and Ross reconnected professionally. As Executive Vice President, Rhodes was at least somewhat in charge of enlisting Ross in the early stages of the advancement. Ross reiterated his gratitude, keeping it in mind. “He came out to do some vignettes at my house in Oklahoma,” Ross remarked. He hired JR with serious consideration, and I was truly grateful for that.

Regarding Rhodes’ second WrestleMania 40 main event encounter, Ross felt that the contest presented a fantastic tale. He continued to emphasize a point that is often overlooked in the modern wrestling community: just because an outcome seems somewhat obvious doesn’t always mean it’s a negative thing, especially if it fulfills what the vast majority of people appear to want.

“I knew how the story was going to end,” said Ross. “They found themselves in a tight spot. To avoid upsetting a lot of people, they had to change the title.

After that, Ross took a moment to don the paternal hat and give Rhodes some unwanted advice now that he was at the top of the WWE mountain. Ross predicted that “he will make a lot of money.” “If I were him, if he hasn’t done it already, [I’d] hire a certified financial planner, because that way, [they] can help keep you up on your quarterly taxes.”

In reference to caps, Ross concluded his analysis of Rhodes’ victory by recalling an old moniker that Cody had given him, referring to his signature headgear, during a congrats discussion they had after “The American Nightmare” won.

“I sent him a text on Monday morning [after WrestleMania],” Ross explained. “I just told you, ‘I’m proud of you, because you’re the kind of leader WWE needs.” I cherish you. “I did it, Cowboy,” was his reply to me. That’s what he used to call me—tiny insider stuff—and because of the f***** hat, Cody dubbed me Cowboy. I’m ecstatic for that child.”
