Good News. Quarterback Jalen Hurts Welcomes New Coaches Amidst Offseason Training

In 2024, quarterback Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles will have a new offensive coordinator and quarterback coach. Though he is not familiar with Hurts, offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is acquainted with quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier.

Although Hurts and Nussmeier are from Alabama, that is not where they met. During the 2012 and 2013 seasons, Nussmeier oversaw offensive operations for the Crimson Tide. Hurts participated in Alabama’s 2016–17 and 2017–2018 seasons.

Hurts stated, “I have a pre-existing relationship with Coach Nuss because he recruited me to Florida back then when I was coming out of high school.” Nussmeier served as the Gators’ offensive coordinator from 2015 to 2017 (the team lost to Hurts and Alabama 56-14 in the 2016 SEC Championship Game).

Moore and Nussmeier spent five NFL seasons together before coming to Philadelphia. From 2019 until 2022, Moore was the offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys. In 2019, Nussmeier oversaw the tight ends, and from 2020 to 2022, he oversaw the quarterbacks. Moore and Nussmeier were the Los Angeles Chargers’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, respectively, during the previous campaign.

Hurts stated, “We’re just all excited,” at a news conference on Wednesday. “I am aware that they are sort of completing some details, making sure everything is precisely as it should be. But all I can do is listen. I see some beauty in the fact that I’m a sponge.

“As a player, I think the one thing I’ve always wanted is just growth and development. I believe that’s what’s given me the opportunity I have here at this location and the ability to keep growing over the course of my career, so that’s what I want to do. The chance to work with our coaches on that excites me.

Hurts will be starting his fifth season in the NFL, and Moore will be his fourth offensive coordinator. Hurts spent his final college season at Oklahoma after having three different offensive coordinators during his time at Alabama: Lane Kiffin, Brian Daboll, and Mike Locksley.

Hurts remarked, “I find myself in a situation very similar to college in that I have coordinators and coaches that are constantly changing.” “However, I’ve always been successful at it, so that’s always been beneficial because you can take what works for you and learn from other people.”

Hurts is getting ready for his fourth year as the starting quarterback for Philadelphia. The Eagles have made it to the postseason in the last three seasons, and they even made it to the Super Bowl in 2022.

However, Philadelphia only managed one more victory in the final seven games of the 2023 season, having begun the season with 10 wins in its first 11 games.

On Monday, the Eagles kicked off their offseason training.

As per Hurts’ statement, he intends to “carry it and leave it to no one else to set the culture and how I want it to be, communicating that with my teammates and everyone above.” I want to always play to a standard that I have set for myself.

“Work will ultimately be the primary means by which you will establish that.”
