San Francisco 49ers Strengthen Secondary by Securing Rock Ya-Sin with One-Year Deal

In order to reinforce their offseason goal of strengthening their secondary, the San Francisco 49ers signed Rock Ya-Sin.

The cornerback has signed a one-year contract with the 49ers, the team announced on Thursday. Ya-Sin, the pro bowler Charvarius Ward’s opposite, is considered a starting option on the outside. To date, no new information on his deal has been made public.

The 49ers made the official statement on Wednesday, and it was subsequently covered by the national media.

The Indianapolis Colts selected 27-year-old Rock Ya-Sin in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. During his three years as a player, he started 29 games with the Colts. For the following two seasons, he would sign with the Baltimore Ravens and the Las Vegas Raiders. Over his NFL career, the Temple product has amassed 196 total tackles and 29 passes defended.

Ya-Sin now plays for the 49ers, a team that struggles to find a replacement for its aging safety group in the secondary. Similar difficulties confront the cornerback group since none of the initial five players have contracts that extend past the 2024 campaign. Ward and fellow star Deommodore Lenoir are included in that.

Ya-Sin now joins a CB room that appears to be lengthy and physically demanding in 2024, equipped with an abundance of instruments. Even though he’ll need to put in some effort in the early going, a successful training camp could move him up the depth chart.

The Temple graduate has extensive experience on special teams, having spent a significant amount of his 2023 playing time there with the Ravens.

The 49ers shouldn’t be deterred from adding more depth at the position later in the draft this month, even with the additional secondary depth.
