The 49ers signed Terique Owens, the son of Terrell Owens, as an undrafted free agent after inviting him to their local pro day earlier this month.
Owens, who played at Missouri State and is a huge wide receiver like his father, must have wowed the 49ers coaches and front office staff on the local pro day. That day, I saw John Lynch chatting with Owens on the sidelines for a considerable amount of time. A few days later, Lynch stated that Owens’ running style reminded him of the Hall of Famer his father had been.
Not to be overlooked, Lynch is a Hall of Famer as well, and he and Terrell Owners were rivals. Lynch most likely has the highest regard for him as an athlete and competitor. He must receive great satisfaction from signing Owen’s son.
The 49ers could have added a number of legacies this weekend, including Christian McCaffrey’s brother Luke McCaffrey, Frank Gore’s son Frank Gore Jr., and Jerry Rice’s son Brendan Rice.
